Descripción : The present investigation was developed in the municipal slaughter center of the Rocafuerte canton, province of Manabí; whose main objective was to evaluate the prevalence of Mycobacterium spp in bovines slaughtered in the municipal slaughterhouse of said canton. The presence of Mycobacterium spp was identified by seeding in Stonebrink (ST), Ogawa Kudoh (OK) culture media and Ziehl-Neelsen staining; using samples from the lymph nodes of the bovines under study. The results obtained were socialized with the people in charge of the slaughter area of the Rocafuerte municipal slaughterhouse. Based on the results, it was obtained that, from the sample of 116 cattle studied, 24 presented symptoms of tuberculosis; that is, they showed physical signs of a possible infection, so their lymph nodes were sampled for verification. From the laboratory results (sowings ST and OK) eight samples exhibited bacterial growth; however, only two were positive for tuberculosis. It is concluded that there is a prevalence of 1.72% (2/116) of Mycobacterium bovis in cattle slaughtered at the municipal slaughterhouse of the Rocafuerte canton.
